Queensgate announces RNIB as new charity partner

There are various events planned throughout the year including space hopper racing in August, an autumn conker competition and a Christmas gift wrapping service. The centre will also be collecting new and used UK and overseas stamps on behalf of the charity throughout the year, with a collection box located at the information desk outside John Lewis.

The RNIB’s mission is to challenge blindness by empowering people who are blind or partially sighted, helping to remove the barriers they face. The support they offer ranges from providing talking books, Braille and help with everyday activities, to offering a helpline for friends and family.

Phil Drinkwater, marketing manager at Queensgate comments: “With so many fantastic entries, choosing a new charity to work with is always a difficult decision to make, but we are thrilled to announce the new partnership. The RNIB is a very important cause and we look forward to helping them raise both money and awareness with the many events we have planned.”

Haidee Roberts, community fundraising executive from RNIB commented: “We are so pleased to be working alongside Queensgate.

“Every year thousands of people lose their sight unnecessarily as they believe that nothing can be done, however sight loss can often be preventable if caught in time. With 500 people registered as blind or partially sighted in Peterborough, our centre in Orton has been offering support to the local community for more than 25 years. Through this unique partnership with Queensgate we hope to reach out to local people in Peterborough, increasing awareness and promoting healthy eye care.”

During 2010/2011 Queensgate partnered with local charity EACH – East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, which provides care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions. Through various fundraising events the shopping centre helped EACH raise £7,500.
