Peterborough's Primark is well underway
With Peterborough shoppers anxiously awaiting the opening of retail giant Primark in 2012, visitors to Queensgate can expect to see activity gain momentum in the coming months.
As the major construction phase of the programme steps up a gear, hoardings have been erected on the space in Central Square where Primark will be located in an impressive double-floor unit. Builders are currently working tirelessly behind the scenes and are busy creating the massive space needed to house the flagship store. The project entails a 930m2 extension required to showcase the full line of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, as well as the store’s homeware offering.
As part of the project, there have been a number of store relocations in order to create one giant space for the Primark super-store. Notably, Argos is now operating on the first floor, enabling Primark to make use of the space on the lower floor. The Queensgate management office has also been relocated to make space for the store.
The new-look Superdrug store, which has been repositioned to accommodate the Primark project, has now opened in the old Curry’s unit between John Lewis and Jack & Jones. Complete with a state-of-the-art shop-fit Superdrug will further enhance the retail experience in North Square.
Sam Eastwood, centre director at Queensgate, comments: “Following months of planning and significant investment, we are on schedule for Primark to open in November 2012. In addition to our existing flagship stores, we are confident that Primark will meet our customers’ demand for value shopping, as well as transform the look of the centre by creating a modern retail environment.
