Spring/Summer 2016 Interiors Guide with John Lewis

Hannah Wright is one of the Home Designers at John Lewis in Queensgate, and she’s put together this blog post to tell us more about the top interiors trends for S/S16 and how to get it with John Lewis…

With flowers starting to bloom and the sunshine breaking through our windows, spring is a great time to revive and refresh our interior spaces after a long dark winter.

There are four key themes for updating your home this season.

John Lewis Coastal

The coastal scheme has been freshened up for this new season using simple stripes and textured fabrics to create an informal relaxed space reflecting the feel of a British seaside town. The colour palette features the classic combination of soft blues and whites with the addition of key seaside inspired accessories.

coastal1.    John Lewis Anchor Cushion £20

2.    John Lewis Padstow Medium Sofa in Solva Stripe Blue £1,299

3.    John Lewis Sailing Fabric £18 per metre

Adding in accessories with coastal features such as rope, anchors or seaside essential, the seagull, will co-ordinate the theme.

coastal 2

1.    John Lewis Penzance Fabric £22 per metre

2.    John Lewis Seagull On A Stand £15

3.    John Lewis Nautical Cupboard Knob £4.95

By keeping larger pieces such as painted furniture and sofas simple, this scheme has a classic modern feel that will be easily updated with accessories, cushions and seaside trinkets. Why not personalise your accessories by adding in memories from your own seaside holidays?

Our Fusion theme is heavily influenced by a mixture of global design, using spicy colours and an eclectic blend of pattern and texture. To achieve success with this look, don’t be afraid to mix prints, patterns and textures to bring that well-travelled feel to the room.

1.    John Lewis Figueria Cushion in Picante £30

2.    John Lewis Miko Large Floor Cushion in Saffron £75

3.    John Lewis Anthology Cushion in Multi £45

4.    John Lewis Zangoora Cushion in Saffron £30

An easy way to create this look is to update your cushions. Mix colours and patterns, and layer up textures and designs. Using large floor cushions around the room will help to attain that global ambience that is key to this look. Use a colour palette of saffron, chili reds, paprika and Indian blue against a neutral background. Accessorise with copper metals and grassy textures like bamboo.

1.     John Lewis Shifra Kelim Rug, 240cm x 170cm £350.00

A popular recurring theme, our Scandi look has been refreshed this season giving a calm and contemporary feel with inspiration from the Scandinavian lakes and forests. Incorporate tones of grey, fresh blues and dusky pastel shades to your room to create a tranquil space.
