New Year, New You!

‘New year, new you’ doesn’t just have to be about healthy eating, fitness regimes or wardrobe clear outs; it can also be about giving your home a refreshed look. I have been looking into the 2015 interior trends and have put together two colour scheme ideas; one for the bedroom and one for the living room. As always, all items are available under the Queensgate roof.

Bold Colours

Bold colours work really well with a more subtle block colour as a base, so for the bedroom I have chosen smoke grey and then accessorised with yellow, orange and teal notes.

Finding a plain grey bedspread was quite a challenge; there are plenty of grey options but if you want one with no texture or pattern then check the selection Argos have. Argos has click and collect so you can peruse and order online and then pick it up from the Queensgate store whilst shopping for your accessories. To brighten up what could be a dull bedspread I added the stand out Orla Kiely giant abacus flower throw. The image really doesn’t do it justice; you want to visit John Lewis to experience how beautiful it is.

To bring out the vibrant colours in the throw, I have chosen a selection of cushions which are also from John Lewis. First up is the Orla Kiely chocolate sunflower abacus cushion which matches the pattern on the throw and is £35, then there is the John Lewis chunky knit slate cushion at £25 to give the look some texture. Finally, the missprint Home Dashes cushion, which is £28, adds another bold pattern to keep your bed looking interesting. If you fancy a bit more colour, a blood orange coloured cushion would look fab.

To finish the look off, the M&S Cotswold clock has a slightly vintage look that is still very popular, its smoke grey tone would look great above the bed.

Pastel Palette

Pastel colours have been hot in the clothing market this winter and they are now becoming a trend within interiors. Muted pinks, dove greys and aqua are the kind of shades to think about mixing together. They are perfect for bringing a calming feeling to your home.

The light brown/pink mink sofa would look great with the Primark microcosy throw layered over it. Then add the velvet spot cushions in heather and duck egg from BHS, which will really complement the shades on the sofa. This look would look great with off white walls and untreated wooden furniture to keep the calm theme running throughout your living room.

The Devon floor lamp from John Lewis could be placed next to the sofa; it has enough uniqueness to stand out and make a statement but it’s not too over the top so you can keep the cosy, tranquil look.

Hopefully these two colour board ideas have given you some inspiration and ideas for how you might want to decorate your home. If you do make any changes to your home with items from Queensgate don’t forget to share a picture with the hashtag #queensgatepb.
